csc165Week3 slog:

Introspection about the quiz:
I have a deeper comprehension of the course this week. I though the week2 quiz to be very easy, and I believed I have understood the ideas of visualize the venn diagram very well. However, I got a very unsatisfied mark in the quiz. At first, I felt so depressed, since I was so confident about the quiz but finally get such a poor mark. This kind of thing never happened before. But now I realize that I misunderstand the course, this course requires us to be very precise. The quiz question asked us to draw a venn diagram to prove the condition which I did perfectly, but it also asked us to not showing any assumptions or knowledge I had, and I did make my own assumptions.   The reasons why I made such mistake was partly related to my English level, and partly related to my logic.  My logic is that when I want to prove something right, I will give a very detailed example. However, in the quiz, it did not ask me to be detailed, and my answer became incorrect. Now I realize I have some logical problems that I should fix. For example, if I want to prove a and b are all wrong, I can say that only c is correct to prove that. In the past, I always wanted to prove a is wrong and b is wrong, and it would make the things complicated.

About the lecture and tutorial:
The lecture becomes very easy to understand after I had the tutorial on monday. The tutorial not only help me review but also introduce some new staff like truth table and some very hard logic question about disjunction, conjunction and negation.  I said the questions about symbols were very easy. However, I realize that memorizing the definition of symbols are not enough for solving complicated questions.  I still need to do many questions in order to practice my logic to solve the question.
After doing some practice, I also becomes more familiar with the symbols. I used to consider ¬∀,'not‘ and  'all' to be 'none',but it actually means 'not all' which equals '∃','some or at least one'.
I also had a hard time struggling to understand the relations in the truth table. However, after I tried to set up an example of truth table by myself, everything becomes clear:
P: my  Ferrari bicycle experience a car accident.
Q: I have to paint my bicycle.
R: I have to change the wheels of my bicycle.
(T means True,F means False)
p    Q    R    Q^R   P->(Q^R)
T T T T T
T T F F F
T F T F F
T F F F F
F T T T T
F T F F T
F F T F T
F F F F T

Hi, I am Jin, a first year student in computer science. It is so exciting that I am actually writing the first blog in my life.
MAIN PART:
After attending csc165 classes for two weeks, I find this course to be very meaningful to my future career about programming and daily life. This course can make me build the ability to talk and write more rigour and brief in the future which can make me sound like a computer scientist.
I pretty much understood everything in the class because I studied the course notes before the class began and the professor explained every point with proper examples.
However, I felt the part about implication to be very confusing. I cannot understand the sentence structure and meaning very well, since English is my second language, and it is not easy for me to understand a complex sentence. And I predict it will take me a lot of  time in the test if there will be a question asking me to find P(assumption) and Q(conclusion) .
The part I am very confident with is everything involves symbols, because their meanings are very straightforward, and I have already had them in my brain.
The most enjoyable part for me is the quiz, I think it is the first 100 percent I get in UT, and it also reflects that I can understand and draw Venn diagrams now.  Moreover, I also have a brand new comprehension of statement and sentence. I used to know these two words but I cannot tell them from one another, and now I know statement should be quantified while sentence is unspecified.  If  we want to make a statement about flowers,  we should tell the audience that which specific flower or flowers we are referring to.
I think this course not only help me directly on the academic things like programming and math but also can help me improve my English level and logic.
